The University of Valencia has two departments participating in the project:

  • The department of Applied Economy will be in charge of feasibility studies.
  • The department of Administrative Law will analyse legal requirements in the par-ticipating regions.

The Universitat de València. Estudi General (UVEG) is a 500 year old institution with currently (2005/06) more than 45 000 students and a scientific staff of near 3.500 people. The university is organised in four divisions Sciences and Engineering, Social Sciences, Health and Human Studies, covering a wide range of studies.

Department for Applied Economics – Research Unit “Economics, Work and Territory”

The Department for Applied Economics of the University of Valencia, with a research staff of around one hundred people, is organised in about 40 research units. Their activities cover a wide range of topics: from applied statistical methods to public economics, from health economics to rural development, etc.

The research group involved in the ZERO PLUS PROJECT belongs to the research unit “Economy, Work, Territory”. The unit has a long experience in socio-economic research on environmental topics in a broad sense, ranging from territorial planning till labour aspects.

Members of this research unit have participated in several EU Projects on implementation of cleaner technologies: SPHERE+ European Substitution Project for Health and the Environment: Lessons from Results and Experiences, (1998-1999; contract number EU-DGXIII-INAMI0698) and CLEANTOOL Innovative Evaluation and Design of Metal Surface Cleaning Processes, (2001-2004; contract number IPS-2000-00009), in which they have actively worked with industrial SMEs.

Moreover, this research unit was recently selected by the European JRC Seville for conducting together with other European partners a study on the implementation of prod-uct service strategies in the European Chemical Industry. (Chemical Product Services in the European Union, 2004-2005; Contract number 22479-11-2004 F1ED SEV NL )

The fields of expertise of the group involved in the project are the socio-economic and institutional dimensions of environmental issues related to industrial ecology and to the decision tools for an integrated environmental assessment.
